UNIONVILLE. SAMUEL A. THOMAS, age 78 of Unionville,
Iowa died September 30, 2005 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.
He was born May 22, 1927 in Memphis, Missouri to Charles and Edna
Belle Wilkins Thomas. He married Mary Lou Hopkins June 8, 1948
in Lockridge, Iowa. He served in the Army Air Force during World
War II as a weatherman. A resident of Davis County most of his
life he was a farmer. He was a member of the United Methodist
Church.
He is survived by his wife; a son Ronald Thomas
of Unionville, Iowa; 2 daughters Sharon Bolin and Barbara Harrington
both of Unionville, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren
and 4 sisters Caroline Daugherty of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Gladys
Shelton of Arkansas, Cora Mae Davis of Moulton, Iowa and Mary
Brooks of Harlan, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers
James Calvin Thomas, Charles Thomas, Jr. and Herman Grant Thomas
and 4 sisters Ellen Reisch, Doris Poling, Myrtle Thomas and Charlene
Thomas.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday October
3, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Revs. Kevin
Gingerich and Jim Matheney officiating. Burial with graveside
military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion
in Bloomfield, will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Sunday with the family present
from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to Davis County
Dollars for Scholars.
