FLORIS. CHARLES D. HARWARD, age 78 of Floris, Iowa died September 9, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born November 21, 1927 in Floris, Iowa to Ross and Jessie Gant Harward. He married Maxine Gilland June 11, 1949 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He had been a resident of Floris his lifetime and had owned and operated the general store in Floris for several years. He worked for J.P. Strother Construction Company and was a retired rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Floris Christian Church and attended Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon. He was a member of Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield and was the first fire chief in Floris. He served on the Floris City Council for 16 years and was sexton of the Floris Cemetery for several years.
He is survived by his wife; 2 grandsons Michael (Erika) and Christopher (Deana) Harward both of Floris; daughter-in-law Dawn Rebecca Harward of Floris; 5 great grandchildren Gary, Kaitlyn, McKenna, Jordan and Bailey Harward and 2 sisters Alice Harward of Bloomfield and Olive Wilbraham of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Steven Harward and 3 brothers Maurice “Buck”, James and Wendel Harward.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday September 12, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor David Albert officiating. Burial with graveside military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield, will be in the Floris Cemetery in Floris, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday with the family present from 6:00-7:30 PM. Memorials have been established to Living Hope Bible Church and the Floris Baptist Church. |
