BLOOMFIELD: C. La Verne Lang, 85 of Clive, Iowa
died Friday, April 7, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
LaVerne Lang was born December 4th, 1920 in Bloomfield, Iowa to
Lola Faye Wilson Lang and Crayton Alva Lang. He graduated from Davis
County High School and served in the U.S. Army in World War II as
a Signal Corpsman in Northern Africa and Italy. He married Elexene
Bowling in November 29,1942 in Queen City, Missouri. After the war
he returned to Bloomfield and entered into the jewelry business
with his parents and wife. In 1962 he and his wife purchased Zoller's
Jewelry Store in Muscatine, Iowa, of which he was owner and an active
partner until its close in Dec. 2002. LaVerne Lang was among the
first Certified Gemologists in the state of Iowa. He served on many
civic boards in both Bloomfield and Muscatine, Iowa. He was a member
of the V.F.W., the Masonic Lodge, and the Methodist Church. His
passions were his wife and family, his Model T Ford, and operating
his amateur radio (ABØM).
He is survived by his daughters Mary Lang Smith,
Martha Lang, Margaret and Luca Berrone; grandchildren William P.
Smith (Frances), Joshua A. Smith (Linda) Stefanie Smith, Tyler Berrone,
Daniela Berrone, and great-granddaughter Jacqueline Rose Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Elexene, a daughter
Molly, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at Wagler Funeral
Home in Bloomfield, Iowa Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with
Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial with military rites by
Reed Whisler Post # 78 of the American Legion, Bloomfield will be
in the IOOF cemetery in Bloomfield. Family will accept visitors
one hour prior to the funeral service.
