Nellie Ruth Benge

BLOOMFIELD:  Nellie Ruth Benge, 91, of 26477 Quake Avenue Bloomfield, Iowa died December 19, 2008 at her home.  She was born August 22, 1917 in Floris, Iowa to John Samuel and Flora May Davis Thompson.  She married Loran R. Benge June 1, 1938 in Kirksville, Missouri.  She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1935 and later from Drake University.  She taught for 30 years in rural schools and for Davis County Community Schools.  She was a member of the Davis County Retired School Teachers and a lifetime member of the Iowa Retired Teachers.  She was a member of the Moulton Christian Church.  She and her husband wintered in Mission, Texas for 24 years.

She is survived by her husband; 4 sons, Phillip Benge of Tipton, Iowa, Ronald and wife Collette Benge of Marshalltown, Iowa, Roger and wife Carolyn Benge of West Liberty, Iowa, Gordon Benge of Clarence, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joe Thompson of Corpus Christi, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dolph Thompson; and 5 sisters, Fern Jones, Francis Speer, Effie Garrett, Kathryn Wilkinson, and Iris Hawk.
