Jacob David “J.D.” Graves
BLOOMFIELD: Jacob David “J.D.” Graves, 88, of Bloomfield, Iowa died July 28, 2008 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born October 8, 1919 in Lancaster, Missouri to James E. and Martha L. Gosser Graves. He married Alta L. Stogdill May 6, 1950 in Mark, Iowa. She preceded him in death April 29, 2000. He lived in Davis County, Iowa most of his life, and was a farmer. He was a member of the Mark Baptist Church and the Burl-McClure Post #280 of the American Legion in Moulton, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during WWII.
He is survived by a son, Bruce Graves of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Lana (Roger) Minnick of Bloomfield, Iowa; 3 granddaughters; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Wilda Johnson of Chariton, Iowa, Madeline McNair of Liscomb, Iowa; a brother, James Graves of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and a special friend Cleta Rudd of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a great-granddaughter, Makenzie Waterbeck; and a sister, Viva Marie Graves.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Phil Griffith officiating. Burial with military rites performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Mark Baptist Church and the Mosaic Group Home in Des Moines, Iowa.
