Dean E. Long

BLOOMFIELD:  Dean E. Long, 64, of Bloomfield, Iowa died September 23, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa.  He was born April 1, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Milo R. and Genevieve Smith Long.  He married Carol Mincks in 1969 in Bloomfield.  They were later divorced.  He was a member of the Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion and VFW.  He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.  Dean coached Babe Ruth Baseball for several years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield.  He worked for the City of Bloomfield as an electrician, for Taylor Agriculture, Bimco, and later worked for the Davis County Community School District as a custodian.  He was a lifetime resident of Davis County, Iowa.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Brenda Frost of Kansas City, Missouri, Angie Daugherty also of Kansas City, Missouri; 6 grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, Nicholas and Cynthia Frost, Justin and Faith Daugherty; his mother, Genevieve Long of Keosauqua, Iowa; 2 sisters, Joanie McMains of Bloomfield, Iowa, Joyce Roberts of Fremont, Nebraska; Special Friends, Tom Howd, Sally Tedrow; His Church Family, Amish friends, and coffee buddies.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be at 10am on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Albertson officiating.  Burial with military rites performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.  Visitation will begin after 10am on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7pm at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.  A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
