Carl L. Smith

DRAKESVILLE:  Carl L. Smith, 70, of Drakesville, Iowa died September 10, 2008 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa.  He was born April 28, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa to Henry Faye and Ora L. Smith Smith.  He married Delores Burrows October 28, 1961 in Davis County, Iowa.  A resident of Drakesville most of his life he was active in the Northern Missouri and Southern Iowa Fox Hunting Association, a local bowling league, the Drakesville Park Board, and was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He served as a volunteer fireman for the Drakesville Fire Department for over 30 years.  He worked as a custodian and in the maintenance department for the Davis County Community School District for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Sharen (Kevin) Woods of Bloomfield, Iowa; and 2 granddaughters, Beth (Kyle) Davis of Moulton, Iowa, and Jody (Joe) Peek of Ames, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 10am on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Rev. Richard Friend officiating.  Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery in Appanoose County, Iowa.  Visitation will begin after 9am on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established to the Northern Missouri and Southern Iowa Fox Hunting Association.
