Douglas R. Townsend
BLOOMFIELD: Douglas R. Townsend, 56, of Bloomfield, Iowa died December 29, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born January 5, 1952 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Glen Raymond and Karla Pflanz Townsend. He married Pamela Rupe January 16, 1971 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was a member and elder of the Church of the Open Bible in Bloomfield. He raced stock cars for years and then passed it down to his son Jeremy. He loved all types of racing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He worked for John Deere for 31 years and was a lifetime resident of Davis County. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Jeremy (Karen) Townsend of Bloomfield, Iowa; a daughter, Brandi Madden of Bloomfield; 4 grandchildren, Austin and Alexis Townsend, Whitney and Ashton Madden; his father, Glen Raymond Townsend of Bloomfield; a brother, Danny Townsend of Bloomfield; 2 sisters, Debbie Jacobsmeier of Houghton, Iowa, Doni Hall of Salem, Iowa; and his grandmother, Marie Pflanz of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
In celebration of his life, a funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Charles Courtney officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin after 9am on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Church of the Open Bible and to Davis County Little League Baseball.
