Olive Jones

BLOOMFIELD:  Olive Jones, 86, of Bloomfield, Iowa died September 26, 2009 at her home.  She was born July 6, 1923 in Keokuk County, Iowa to H.H. and Ollie Noel Humphreys. She married Leland H. Jones November 29, 1942 in Davis County, Iowa.  He preceded her in death May 22, 2008.  She served in the Women’s Army Corp during WWII as an airplane and engine mechanic.  She was a farmwife and homemaker.  She was a member of Citizens for Community Improvement.

She is survived by a son, Frank Jones of Downing, Missouri; a daughter, Doris; 3 grandsons, Joe (Sonia) Forsythe, Thad (Lee) Jones, and Wes (Mandy) Jones; 2 granddaughters, Ronnie Jones and Angeline Davis; 6 great-grandchildren, Kristen, Cody, Anthony, Stone, Anna, and Jacob; a brother, Vernon Humphreys; and 5 sisters, Nina Forsythe, Eva Adams, Cynthia Rupe, Doris Meyers, and Muriel Martello.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a step-grandson, Jason; a sister, Violet Hull; and 2 brothers, Harold and Nolen Humphreys.

Memorial services with military rites performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield, Iowa will be at 10:30am on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Sonny Smyser officiating.  Her body was donated to the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.  Burial will be in Howell Cemetery in Davis County at a later date.  In Lieu of flowers memorials have been established to Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties and Look To The Stars Cancer Foundation.
