MILTON: Velma Verl Kinney, 97, of Milton, Iowa died August 20, 2009 at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, Iowa. She was born November 10, 1911 in Troy, Iowa to Homer Norris and Emma Alice McVey Downing. She married Charles E. Barnes March 6, 1929 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death April 18, 1936. She later married Leland C. Kinney June 15, 1940 in Kirksville, Missouri. He preceded her in death in May 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of the Grace Point Church of the Nazarene in Bloomfield.
She is survived by a daughter, Lucille Swank of Nampa, Idaho; a son, Bill Barnes of Milton, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; and 2 sisters, Helen Bernstoroff of Keosauqua, Iowa and Laree Huff of Milton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; 3 great-grandchildren, Todd and Kelly Howard and Tory Cook; a sister, Irene Bentley; and 3 brothers, Lester, Victor, and Ernest Downing.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30am on Monday, August 24, 2009 at the Grace Point Church of the Nazarene in Bloomfield with Pastors Dick Allen and Grover Branson officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton, Iowa. Visitation will begin after 9am on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 2-4pm at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa. A memorial has been established to the Grace Point Church of the Nazarene.
