David Wayne Blankenship
BLOOMFIELD: David Wayne Blankenship, 94, of Bloomfield, Iowa died July 6, 2009 at his home. He was born September 28, 1914 in Davis County, Iowa to John R. and Jennie Herbert Blankenship. He married Marguerite Black June 12, 1948 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She preceded him in death March 25, 2006. He owned and operated a Mobil station for 19 years and was also a mechanic at Vaughn Motor Company in Bloomfield. He was a member of the Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield and served in the United States Army during WWII.
He is survived by 2 sons, David Jr. Blankenship (Fiancée Kay Lorton) of Preston, Missouri, Danny L. (Charlo) Blankenship of Littleton, Colorado; 2 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 3 brothers, Earl “Gus”, Glen and Edgar “Pert” Blankenship; 2 sisters, Ethel Blankenship and Edith Brown.
Funeral services will be at 10:30am on Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial with military rites performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin after 9am on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-7:30pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library.
