Jack Boatman
BLOOMFIELD. Jack Boatman, 93 of Bloomfield died October 14, 2009 at the Davis County Hospital Long Term Care in Bloomfield. He was born May 9, 1916 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Bert and Edythe Brunk Boatman. He married Isabelle Barker December 25, 1938 in Kahoka, Missouri. He was a resident of Davis County his lifetime and was a barber. Jack enjoyed the outdoors and was a hunter, fisherman, gardener and played golf. He was noted for raising strawberries, which he provided for the surrounding community. Jack was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was affiliated with the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and past member of the Izaak Walton League and the Bloomfield Country Club.
He is survived by his wife; 4 sons Dr. Dennis (Kathy) Boatman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dr. Douglas (Jean) Boatman of Solon, Iowa, Michael Boatman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jack L. (Sharon) Boatman of Bloomfield, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and a brother Max Boatman of Fishers, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers William “Bill” and Robert Boatman; 3 sisters Florence Nelson, Delilah Melvin and Ethelyne Melvin.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 am Monday October 19, 2009 at the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 am Sunday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with the family present to greet friends from 4-6 pm. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to Davis County Dollars for Scholars.
