Ethel Cowan Dunton

BLOOMFIELD:  Ethel Cowan Dunton, 95, of Bloomfield, Iowa died January 4, 2009 at her home.  She was born January 5, 1913 in Blythe, Iowa to Sandy and Anna Shelton Cowan.  She married Keith H. Dunton March 7, 1939 in Keota, Iowa.  He preceded her in death April 6, 1985.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Thornburg, Iowa and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (Leon) Vogel of Bloomfield, Iowa; 2 grandsons, Todd Vogel and Troy Vogel both of Bloomfield; 2 great-granddaughters, Grayci Vogel and Quincey Vogel both of Bloomfield; 2 sisters, Margaret Ann Shirlaw of San Diego, California, and Laura Baughman of Bay City, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 brothers, Earl and Sonny Cowan; and 2 sisters, Jean Shirlaw and Maye De Gregory.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Sixteenth Cemetery north of Thornburg, Iowa.  The body has been cremated.  A memorial has been established to the Tri County Dollar for Scholars and may be sent to the family at 1304 140th Ave. Bloomfield, Iowa 52537.  Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is assisting the family.
