Susan Friend

BLOOMFIELD:  Eurena Susan Friend, 98, of Bloomfield, Iowa died October 16, 2009 at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield, Iowa.  She was born April 12, 1911 near Queen City, Missouri to William Walter and Ida Ellen Smyser Fulcher.  She married Herbert Leo Friend Sr. September 23, 1929 in Lancaster, Missouri.  He preceded her in death April 2, 2000.  Susan loved serving others.  She worked at FC Woolworth Five and Ten Cent Store, the Navy base in Ottumwa, Iowa, Morrell’s, R&L Truck Stop, the Davis County Hospital, and Friend’s Boarding Home.  Susan gave her life to the Lord, loving and serving Him.  She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church and later joined the Bethlehem Church which she attended for five years.  She was a member of the Bethlehem Ladies Aid.

She is survived by 3 sons, Herbert “Rocky” (Dorothy) Friend of Hastings, Nebraska, Raymond Friend of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Richard (Ione) Friend of Bloomfield, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 4 brothers, Millard, Fred, Loyal, and John Fulcher; 3 sisters, Blanche Randall, Ruth Taylor, and Marguerite Courtney; daughter-in-law Erma Friend; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:30pm on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Rev. Richard Friend and Mark Friend officiating.  Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.  Open visitation will be from 9am until 9pm on Monday at the funeral home.  The family will be present to greet friends from 1pm until the time of the service on Tuesday.  A memorial has been established to the Bethlehem Church.
