Willa C. Mathews

BLOOMFIELD.  Willa C. Mathews, 64 of Bloomfield died October 20, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center – West Lakes in West Des Moines, Iowa.  She was born December 24, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Willis and Zora Ruth Miars Arendt.  She married Hollis Hill August 15, 1970.  He preceded her in death December 14, 1973.  She married Danny Mathews July 16, 1980 in Hedrick, Iowa.  She was a nurse.  Willa enjoyed her grandchildren, dogs, photography and loved to cook.  She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, AKC, was president of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the retired hospital employees club and a 4-H leader for dog obedience and agility.

She is survived by a son Chris (Amy) Hill of Pella; a daughter Susan (Mike) Haskell of Bloomfield; 3 grandchildren Austin and Abbie Jo Hill and Kaden Haskell; her father Willis Arendt of Hedrick; 2 brothers Bob Arendt of Ottumwa and Warren Arendt of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by her mother; an infant daughter and her first husband.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating.  Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.  Visitation will begin at 9 am Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 4-6 pm.  A memorial has been established to her family.
