Johnie S. Roberts Sr. FLORIS: Johnie S. Roberts Sr., 81, of Floris, Iowa died November 15, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born September 3, 1928 in Davis County, Iowa to Louie Alva and Clara Alice Vaughn Roberts. He married Donna Burris April 21, 1951 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He later married Martha Wiley October 9, 1990 in Floris, Iowa. He worked for John Deere as a machinist for 30 years. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, raccoon hunting, gardening, and spending time with his boys. He was a lifetime resident of Davis County. He is survived by his wife; 6 sons, Johnie (Joan) Roberts Jr. of Springville, Iowa, Harold (Alice) Roberts of Ottumwa, Iowa, Darrell “Pudge” (Luanne) Roberts of Bloomfield, Iowa, Brian (Brenda) Roberts of Eldon, Iowa, Donald and Adrian (Zelda) Roberts both of Floris, Iowa; 30 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 step-children; 11 step-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Marvin Roberts of Bloomfield and Otis Roberts of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Varold “Bird” Roberts; 2 brothers, Earl and Alva Roberts; a sister, Erma Comer; and a step-son, Mark Greiner. Funeral services will be at 9:30am on Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Richard Friend officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa. Visitation will begin after 9am on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. |
