Rex L. Steinkruger
BLOOMFIELD. Rex L. Steinkruger, 75 of Bloomfield died November 1, 2009 at the Davis County Hospital Long Term Care in Bloomfield. He was born October 30, 1934 in Franklin, Nebraska to Walter and Mamie Fritson Steinkruger. He married Connie Blackwell November 6, 1981 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was a school teacher and coach in Nebraska. He obtained his masters degree in psychiatric social work at the University of Nebraska in 1969. He moved to Bloomfield in 1970 and worked as a psychiatric social worker with the Gilfillan Clinic, Hickory Knoll Residential Treatment Center and Southern Iowa Mental Health Center and most recently with Dr. Berges in Ottumwa. He later served as the Davis County Magistrate from 1980 to 2006. He was affiliated with the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife; a son Mike Steinkruger of Keokuk, Iowa; 3 daughters Kim Lutz of Amana, Iowa, Kandis Thompson of Cleveland, Ohio and Erin Delaney of Shanghai, China; a step-daughter Patricia Mincks of Bloomfield, Iowa and a stepson Mike Campbell of Centerville, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and a half brother Craig Steinkruger of Hastings, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Wallace Steinkruger and a stepson Aaron Campbell.
The body has been cremated. Memorial services will be at 10:30 am Saturday November 7, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. The family will be at the funeral home to greet friends from 4-6 pm Friday. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established.
