Ruth E. Swaim
BLOOMFIELD: Ruth E. Swaim, 89, of Bloomfield, Iowa died November 4, 2009 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. She was born November 27, 1919 in Adams Township Wapello County, Iowa to Alva and Isol Hendrickson Rominger. She married Doyle C. Swaim January 19, 1941 in Kirksville, Missouri. He preceded her in death December 26, 1971. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, had been active in the Davis County Hospital Auxiliary, Davis County Fine Arts Council where she for many years worked as costume designer, and the Care Review Board for the Long Term Care Unit at the Davis County Hospital. Ruth served as secretary for the Bloomfield Community Housing Board for several years, was a long time member of the Davis Co. Council on Aging and was currently serving as treasurer of the Senior Citizen meal site. She had previously been active in Republican politics and was proud to have been the first female county chairman in Iowa. She was a columnist for the Bloomfield Democrat for several years.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Suzanne (Phillip) Wright of Anchorage, Alaska, Cynthia (Mike) Spurgeon of Bloomfield, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter, Sara Spurgeon; and a brother, Albert Rominger.
Funeral services will be at 10:30am on Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 9am on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 2-4pm at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Davis County Senior Center.
