BLOOMFIELD: L. Laverne Stogdill, 86, of Bloomfield, Iowa died January 24, 2010 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born May 19, 1923 in Davis County, Iowa to Thomas A. and Nancy Ellen Bowman Stogdill. He married Jean Foglesong March 29, 1947 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Laverne served in the United States Army during WWII. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing solitaire. He was a lifetime resident of Davis County.
He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Dr. J.L. (Linda) Stogdill, D.G. (Dorothy) Stogdill both of Pulaski, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Chris (Carolyn) Stogdill, Jason Stogdill, Josie (Kevin) Drummond, Sarah (John) Warren, and Laura (Adam) Newton; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lovelle Moore of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 8 brothers; and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be at 10:30am on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial with military rites performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin after 9am on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family.
