Marie Birchmier

PULASKI:  Marie L. Birchmier, 94, of Pulaski, Iowa died January 4, 2010 at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield.  She was born January 27, 1915 in Davis County, Iowa to H.L. and Minnie Elizabeth Bletzer Harbin.  She married Kenneth Edward Birchmier July 6, 1936 in New Hampton, Iowa.  He preceded her in death December 1, 1979.  She worked for the Pulaski and Ottumwa Post Office for 32 years, retiring in 1977.  She attended the Pulaski United Methodist Church and will be remembered for her custard pies.

She is survived by a daughter, Lois (Ralph) Young of Ottumwa, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Stephanie Courtney of Des Moines, Iowa, Kim (Rich) Garner of Ottumwa; 4 great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Courtney of Des Moines, Zachary and Kourtney Garner of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Graveside services will be at 11am on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa with Pastor Jim Matheney officiating.  Visitation will begin after 1pm on Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7pm at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.  A memorial has been established to Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties and may be mailed to P.O. Box 1150, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
