Rex Bowersox

BLOOMFIELD:  Rex Lionel Bowersox, 86, of Bloomfield, Iowa died September 18, 2010 at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  He was born December 7, 1923 near Cantril, Iowa to Ira Leslie and Eunice Lenora Marie Hedges Bowersox.  He married Louise Stewart December 25, 1947 in Douds, Iowa.  He attended rural schools in Keokuk County, Iowa before serving in the Navy during WWII.  He was a lifetime member of Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield.  He was a farmer, school bus driver, and retired after 16 years as a road maintainer operator for Davis County Secondary Roads.  During his retirement he wrote and published two novels: The Wings of Destiny (A war story) and The Revenge of Pride (A western).  Rex and Louise loved country music and they attended numerous music festivals together and made a host of friends.  He was a member of the Bethlehem Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years; a daughter, Janet (Bill) Rominger of Bloomfield, Iowa; a son, Ira Joe (Sheralyn) Bowersox of Bloomfield, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jared Wayne (Emily) Bowersox of Milton, Iowa, Randy (Tamra) Rominger of Bloomfield, Renetta Mendoza of Bloomfield; 4 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Keith (Vera) Bowersox of Omaha, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alma Hedges Mathews Jacobs; and a brother, William Sanfred Bowersox who was killed in service on January 2, 1942.
