Norma Ruth Cary
BLOOMFIELD: Norma Ruth Cary, 94 of rural Bloomfield, Iowa died April 4, 2010 at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield. She was born February 2, 1916 in Davis County, Iowa to Vessie and Mabel Schlotter Hinkle. She married Ronald Barton Cary August 8, 1945 in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death September 6, 2001. Norma graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1933 receiving a lifetime normal certificate. She taught in rural schools in Davis County 10 years before marriage and 8 years after. During her teaching she attended different colleges during the summer. Norma and her husband owned and operated Wendell’s Shoe Store in Bloomfield from January 16, 1962 to March 1, 1976. She was a member of the Dunnville Baptist Church. She accepted the Lord as her savior and was baptized at the age of 7. She was a Sunday School teacher for 70 years, starting at age 16. Norma was also a member of the Belknap Club.
She is survived by a sister, Kathleen Wyatt of Bloomfield, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 2 sisters, Christine Bissell and Margie Heady.
Funeral services will be at 10:30am on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Marvin Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Dunnville Cemetery in Davis County. Visitation will begin after 9am on Wednesday with the family present from 5-7pm at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Dunnville Baptist Church.
