Charles King
BLOOMFIELD: Pastor Charles W. King, 84, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born December 5, 1925 in Davis County, Iowa to Carl and Mabel Grim King. He graduated from Bloomfield High School and later from the Open Bible Institute in Des Moines. Charles served two years in the U.S. Air Corps in the Philippines as a nose gunner of a B-24 Liberator. He married Bernice Ashmead May 18, 1947 in Bloomfield, Iowa. Charles was the pastor of the Algona Open Bible Church for one year, the Open Bible Church in Mason City, IA for 11 years, Calvary Open Bible of Ottumwa, IA for the past and most recent 17 years, and supplied pastoral services at several churches in Iowa over the past 6 decades. He also owned and operated King’s Hearing Aid Service in Ottumwa, Iowa for 35 years. He was the founding member of the popular gospel group, The Happy Five. Charles King dedicated his life to bringing many people to the Lord through his ministry and his music.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bernice; 3 daughters, Judy (David) Stangl of Arlington, Texas, Mia (Sam) Solomon of Toronto, Canada, Charlene Hansen of Ottumwa, Iowa; a son, Daniel King of Austin, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Quinn Hansen, Cassandra Hansen, Riley Hansen, Ethan Stangl; a brother, Dr. David King of Des Moines, Iowa; and a sister, Joanne Wilson of Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 sisters, Mary Ellen Ellis and Suzanne Hendricks.
Funeral services will be at 11am on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Revs. Lowell Simmons and John Royer officiating. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel South Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa. Visitation will begin after 9am on Monday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Calvary Open Bible Church in Ottumwa, Iowa.
