Helen M. McGrew

OTTUMWA.  Helen M. McGrew, 80 of Ottumwa died January 14, 2010 at Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa.  She was born September 16, 1929 in Savannah, Iowa to Floyd and Cleo Dooley Botts.  She was a 1948 graduate of Bloomfield High School.  She married Loyal H. McGrew May 19, 1948 in Sydney, Iowa.  He preceded her in death October 7, 1994.  Helen had been a resident of Ottumwa since 1970.  She worked at St. Joseph Hospital until 1984 and then worked at Hy-Vee, later working as a greeter at Walmart.  Helen was a member of the Davis Street Christian Church in Ottumwa and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafts and just talking and visiting with people.

She is survived by a daughter Marianna (Ron) Stewart of Ottumwa, Iowa;  grandsons  Wesley (Stacie) Stewart of Arvada, Colorado, Dusty (Erika) Stewart of Ottumwa, Iowa, Michael McGrew of South Bend, Indiana; a granddaughter Megan McGrew of Richmond, Kentucky; a great grandson Riley Stewart of Arvada, Colorado and daughter-in-law Renee McGrew-Walls of Bloomfield, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Stephen McGrew; aunt Mary Waggoner and grandparents Arch “Pa” and Ola Dooley who she lived with while growing up.

Funeral services will be at 10 am Monday January 18, 2010 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Brian Gentz officiating.  Burial will be in the Drakesville Cemetery in Drakesville, Iowa.  Visitation will begin at 9 am Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 2-4 pm.  A memorial has been established to Good Samaritan Hospice.
