Elsie V. Ritz

Bloomfield.  Elsie V. Ritz, 83 of Davenport, Iowa and former Bloomfield resident died February 22, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Davenport.  She was born November 10, 1926 in Floris, Iowa to Smith and Gertrude Hobbs Thomas.  She married Howard H. Ritz June 13, 1944 in Bloomfield, Iowa.  He preceded her in death November 9, 2004.  She had been a resident of Davenport since 2004.  She opened and operated Elsie’s Flower Shop and later E & H Shoes both in Bloomfield.  She was affiliated with the Mark Baptist Church. 

She is survived by a daughter Carolyn (Ronnie) Small of Davenport, Iowa; 3 grandchildren Lori (Dan) Wojciechowski, Michele (Jim) Flater and Christy (Jon) Hutton and 4 great grandchildren Briana Hutton, Kylie Flater, Brennan Hutton and Marissa Flater.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 brothers John, Hervey and Arthur Thomas and a sister Varina Eakins.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Thursday February 25, 2010 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Stephen Bowie officiating.  Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa.  Visitation will begin after 9 am Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-6 pm.  A memorial has been established to the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library.
