Evelyn I. Scott

BLOOMFIELD:  Evelyn I. Scott, 85, of Bloomfield, Iowa died March 23, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa, Iowa.  She was born August 8, 1924 in Davis County, Iowa to William T.M. and Zelma Mae Smith Hopkins.  She married Osa Junior Scott June 28, 1945 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts.  He preceded her in death November 18, 1998.  She was a middle school teacher for the Davis County Community School District teaching math and science.  Evelyn was a member of the Davis County Retired Teachers Association, NEA, Order of the Eastern Star, and was affiliated with the West Grove United Methodist Church.  She loved her family, working on the farm, and valued education.  She was a lifetime resident of Davis County.

She is survived by a son, Robert (Margaret) Scott of Bloomfield; 2 daughters, Linda Scott of Iowa City, Iowa, Cheri Scott of Highland, California; 3 grandchildren, Shawna (Neric) Smith of Bloomfield, Iowa, Nicole Scott of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Michael Scott of North Liberty, Iowa; 2 great-grandsons, Karson and Brayden Smith; 2 brothers, John Hopkins of Ottumwa, Iowa, George Hopkins of Unionville, Iowa; 7 sisters, Mary Thomas of Unionville, Iowa, Miriam Hougland of Ottumwa, Marlene Fritch of West Virginia, Joyce Grovesnor of Moravia, Iowa, Lois Houser of Indiana, Patricia Hubbartt of California, and Linda Holmes of Humeston, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sons, Gary and Larry Scott; 2 daughters, Marcia and Janice Scott; 2 brothers, Robert and Stephen Hopkins; and two infant siblings.

Funeral services will be at 10am on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating.  Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery in Appanoose County, Iowa.  Visitation will begin after 9am on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established to the Davis County Middle School Science Department.
