Terry Whitacre

BLOOMFIELD:  Terry J. “Whit” Whitacre, 73, of Des Moines, Iowa and former resident of Davis County, Iowa died January 6, 2010 at his home.  He was born December 31, 1936 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Ralph and Mary McClure Whitacre.  He married Corinne Johnson December 10, 1960 in Bloomfield, Iowa.  He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years retiring in February 2009.  He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1955 and was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church.  Terry enjoyed gambling at Prairie Meadows, traveling to Las Vegas, and baseball.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Tim (Marci) Whitacre of Waukee, Iowa; a daughter, Shirley (John) Hollister of Des Moines, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Timmy.

Memorial services will be at 11am on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Richard Friend officiating.  Military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will follow the service at the funeral home.  The family will be present to greet friends from 10am until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Mercy Hospice and may be left at the funeral home or sent to the family at 4409 SW 5th St., Des Moines, Iowa 50315.
