Leon Wilfawn

 

ALBIA:  Leon Eugene Wilfawn, 80, of Albia, Iowa died July 14, 2010 at his home.  He was born May 22, 1930 in Moulton, Iowa to Leo and Grace Childs Wilfawn.  He married Gwendolyn Willier June 17, 1962 in Davis County, Iowa.  Leon served in the United States Army.  He was employed with the Davenport School System for 10 years, Albia Rivet for 20 years, and also as a mechanic at the Phillips 66 in Bloomfield, Iowa for 20 years.  He enjoyed gardening and working in the yard.  Leon and Gwendolyn have lived in Albia since 1974.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Gary (Alison) Wilfawn, Jerry Wilfawn both of Albia, Jim (Sheila) Wilfawn of Monroe, Iowa; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Jack of Des Moines, Iowa, Greg Taylor of Knoxville, Iowa; and a sister, Dorothy Huffman of Ottumwa, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; an infant great-granddaughter; two sisters, Esther Buck, Pat Weidaman; a sister in infancy; and three brothers, Lawrence, Russell, and Ralph Wilfawn.

Funeral services will be at 11am on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastors Terry Chapman and John Van Weelden officiating.  Burial with military rites performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.  Visitation with family present to greet friends will be at 10am on Saturday until the time of the service.  A memorial has been established to Hospice of Central Iowa.
