BLOOMFIELD: Inez L. Bowling, 87, of Ankeny, Iowa, and formerly of Bloomfield, Iowa died August 31, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born February 26, 1925 in Schuyler County, Missouri to Clyde and Mattie Burton Swindler. She married Gene Bowling December 28, 1945 in Mark, Iowa. He preceded her in death May 4, 2004. Inez grew up in the Downing, Missouri area and attended Brush Creek School in rural Schuyler County. She worked in the family grocery business at Bunker Hill and worked for Lowell French’s grocery store in Mark as well as C. E. Erickson Co. in Des Moines during World War II. She was also a homemaker and lived on a farm for many years near West Grove, Iowa. After a fire destroyed their home on the family farm in 1972, she and her husband moved to Bloomfield and continued to farm until their retirement in 1975. She moved to Ankeny to be near her family in November 2007. Her family was the joy of her life. Inez attended the Bloomfield Christian Church.
She is survived by her son, Larry (Glenda) Bowling of Smithville, Missouri; three daughters, Linda (Dale) Fine of Dallas Center, Iowa, Judy Ruble of Ankeny, Jane Bowling of Clive, Iowa; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Wilbur Swindler of Ottumwa, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Robert, Joe Dean, John and Jim Swindler; and three sisters, Wilma Flynn, Icle Wetzel and Viva Cuddy.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Jack Knox officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. A memorial has been established to Davis County Hospital Long Term Care.
