Connie King

Connie Ann King, 80, passed away on September 3, 2022 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on August 14, 1942 to Jacob Oran and Clara Laurene Croft O’Brien Swaim. She graduated from Davis County High School in 1960. On June 19, 1960 she married Darrell “Swede” King in Drakesville, Iowa. Swede passed away on February 8, 2005. Connie was a dedicated farmwife and also spent many years working at the Davis County Hospital, retiring in 2012. She loved spending time with Swede working their farm together side by side. She always loved her orphan bottle babies. She was a talented baker, especially when it came to making noodles, brownies, and mayonnaise cake. Anyone stopping by the house was always offered food or a glass of sweet tea and making Sunday meals for her family was important to Connie. She stayed active in the Drakesville area - attending church as often as she could at Drakesville Methodist and always volunteering at the Drakesville Mule Show. Time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was special to her heart. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Tammy King, Teresa (Rick) Sayre both of Drakesville; two grandchildren, Adam (Allison) Bridgman of Drakesville, Amanda (Nick) Eckstein of De Soto, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Madi Jean Bridgman, Piper Bridgman; brother, Kenneth (Joann) Swaim of Drakesville; sister, Sheila (Ralph) Hopkins of Bloomfield; brother-in-law, Gary (Sandra) King of Drakesville; sisters-in-law, Judy Hopkins of California, Connie (Alan) Roberts of Omaha, Barb King of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Pat Swaim; brother, Danny (Norma) O’Brien; brothers-in-law Richard King, Bill Hopkins; and sister-in-law, Betty (Kenneth) Holley. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Ivan Kaden officiating. Burial will be at the Taylor Cemetery in Appanoose County, Iowa. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Look to the Stars in Bloomfield and the Drakesville Fire Department.
