Joshua Jarvis

Joshua Adam Jarvis, 35, of Anchorage, Alaska, died on Monday, August 10, 2015 in Anchorage. He was born on April 2, 1980 in Royal Oak, Michigan to Kevin and Brenda Wintermote Jarvis. He graduated high school from Coldwater, Michigan in 1998 and a short time later moved to Washington, Iowa. While living in Washington, Josh enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country honorably, having done a tour of duty in Iraq. Josh was a hero, having saved a fellow soldier from an attempted suicide while in training in Texas. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 2006, Josh moved to Ottumwa, Iowa. A short time later, he entered training to become an FAA air traffic controller. After training in Oklahoma City, his job duties took him to Anchorage, where he spent the last few years of his life. Josh was an avid lover of reading, music, and movies. He was also a self-proclaimed computer nerd and loved video gaming of all sorts. He was extremely intelligent, extremely creative, and had a witty sense of humor. He enjoyed the outdoors of Alaska and was a serious gun collector. He was well-respected by his friends and family for his personality, intelligence, and wit. He was well-respected by his coworkers for his professionalism and skill as an air traffic controller. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Josh is survived by his parents, Kevin and Brenda Jarvis of Ottumwa, Iowa; two brothers, Heath (Louise) Jarvis of Naples, Florida, Chris Jarvis of Columbus, Ohio; grandfather, Gilbert Jarvis of Ottumwa; grandmother, Shirley Schumaker of Bloomfield; one niece; one nephew; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul Wintermote; grandmother, Ivalee Emery; and two aunts, Rhonda Roulet and Sheryl Tipton. Josh's life was short but full. He traveled the world, served his country with distinction and honor, lived in many places, experienced a lot of things, and impacted the lives of everyone he ever met in a positive way. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Heath Jarvis officiating. The Patriot Guard will lead the procession for burial at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Graveside military rites will be performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion. No visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Wounded Warrior Project and may be mailed to Wagler Funeral Home at 304 W. Jefferson St., Bloomfield, Iowa 52537.
