Marie Eleanor Grosvenor

Marie Eleanor Grosvenor, 106, of Ottumwa, Iowa and former resident of Davis County, Iowa passed away on May 28, 2019 at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa. She was born October 20, 1912 in Eldon, Iowa to Frank E. and Mary Saga Crook Fiedler. She married Roy Clifford Grosvenor on March 21, 1935 in Lancaster, Missouri. He passed away on December 29, 1990. Eleanor lived in Wapello County until her family moved to Live Oak, Florida in 1914. She spent most her youth in Florida with her family and returned to Iowa when she was 17 after a severe hurricane destroyed their home. Her experiences in her youth taught and served her well, giving her a strong background for her long life. Her childhood was filled with many adventures including the harvesting of “Gators” and killing “Rattlesnakes.” She loved to tell these stories of adventures to her family who often wondered if they were true and only believing them after getting confirmation from Eleanor’s brothers. Eleanor and Roy’s home was always open to anyone who came to their door. She was known by many as their “Other Mom.” It seemed there were always cookies or some type of refreshments to help the neighborhood children through a stressful day or adventure. When Roy passed in 1990, Eleanor remained in her home in Floris. Over the years she would spend time in Hailey, Idaho with her son, Ray and his wife, Sharon. There she maid numerous friends and acquaintances over the years. She also shared her time in Iowa and Georgia living with her daughter, Patricia and husband, Richard. When she sold her home in Floris, she moved to Fremont, Iowa where she lived with her son Dewaine and his wife, Delores. She was known for her outstanding skills as a master quilter and seamstress, fabulous cook, and a wonderful sense of humor. She always saw the best in people and made them feel welcomed and loved. She was a member of the Floris Christian Church. She is survived by three children, Patricia (Richard) Van Nice of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Dewaine (Delores) Grosvenor of Fremont, Iowa, Raymond (Sharon) Grosvenor of Hailey, Idaho; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many friends she made over her 106 years of life. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant twin children, Roy and Joy Grosvenor; and three brothers, John Bud “J.B.” Fiedler, Henry Willis “Pete” Fiedler, and Frank James “Jimmy” Fiedler. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Mark Clark officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Davis County. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Care Initiatives Hospice – Albia.
