Melissa McKay

Melissa Alice McKay, 36, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on June 24, 2020 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. She was born May 19, 1984 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Steven Mark and Amanda Kay Hem Ebelsheiser. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 2002 and the University of Northern Iowa in 2006. While attending Ottumwa High School, she was a star track athlete competing at the Drake Relays and the Iowa State Meet. On November 11, 2011, she married Trent McKay in Las Vegas. The couple had a daughter, Jemah, who is at home and a son, Asher, who passed away with Melissa. Melissa loved spending time with her family. She was a wonderful mother and devoted wife. She enjoyed gardening and golfing. She was currently an insurance agent for Northside Insurance in Bloomfield and had worked at Wigwam Daycare also in Bloomfield. She is survived by her husband, Trent; daughter, Jemah; parents, Mark and Mandy Ebelsheiser of Ottumwa; sister, Mallory (Ryan) Brisendine of Ottumwa; niece, Rory Brisendine of Ottumwa; in-laws, Vicki and Shawn Eaton of Floris, Iowa, Walter McKay Sr. of What Cheer, Iowa, Bob and Cyndy Overstreet of Bloomfield; three sisters-in-law, Toshya Stout of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Tiffany (Daryn) Williams of Newton, Iowa, Erin (Chad) Novak of Edmond, Oklahoma; three brothers-in-law, Walter (Tiffney) McKay Jr., of What Cheer, Chad (Misti) Austin of San Diego, California, Trevor Eaton of Floris, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Asher Tate McKay; grandparents, Paul and Winnie Ebelsheiser, Royce and Cleone Hem; and an uncle, Kenny Ebelsheiser. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Bloomfield Christian Church with Revs. Leslie Dotson and Tiffany Williams officiating. Burial with her son Asher will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Social distance guidelines will be followed for both visitation and funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for her daughter Jemah’s college education and to the Davis County “A” Club with money to be used for the Davis County High School Track Program.
