Nina Forsythe

Nina Marcella Forsythe, 101, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on May 31, 2023 at the Bloomfield Care Center surrounded by family. She was born on November 16, 1921 in Keokuk County, Iowa to Hillis Harvey and Ollie Noel Humphreys. After high school, Nina taught in a rural school in Davis County until her marriage to Gerald Forsythe on December 20, 1941 in Lancaster, Missouri. At that point she became a farm wife, helping Gerald in all aspects of the farm and raising six children. Gerald passed away on March 4, 2013. Nina was a master gardener and sold produce to many people in the area over the years, either delivering her produce or setting up at the farmer's market. She enjoyed trying to grow different plants, flowers, and trees. She enjoyed cooking and sewing, skills she passed down to each of her daughters. She was an avid reader, wrote poetry, and was an artist. Nina was a 4-H leader, county 4-H committee leader, 4-H camp counselor, and was active at the state and local level in ARC - a mentally and physically handicapped rights organization. She was deeply devoted to her family and attended every school event she could for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, Coons Hi-Bidders Card Club, and several mixed and women's bowling leagues. She is survived by her son, Nolen (Linda) Forsythe of Oskaloosa, Iowa; four daughters, Sandra (Glen) Hubbartt of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Marcella (Tommy) Thompson, Teresa (Jack) Moss both of Bloomfield, Linda (Melvin) Wilfawn of Fairfield, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Adams of Bloomfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Charlotte Forsythe; great-granddaughter, Maiya Nabor; daughter-in-law, Kay Forsythe; three brothers, Harold, Nolen, and Vernon Humphreys; and five sisters, Olive Jones, Cynthia Rupe, Doris Meyers, Muriel Martello, and Violet Hull. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastors Robert and Molly Goodrich officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library and the Davis County Conservation Board.
