Sherrell Lee Stigler

Sherrell Lee Stigler, 72, of Maxwell, Iowa passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 9, 2015 at the Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines. She was born on her family farm in Moulton, Iowa to Wray Puffer and Ona Martin Bassett on June 23, 1943. Sherrell made her way to Des Moines after graduation from Davis County High School in 1961 with merely a bus ticket and suitcase. She found her way to Maxwell where she successfully raised four daughters. She instilled an independent yet loving demeanor in her girls. She was so proud of Lorie, Lisa, LaDonna, and Stacy. Sherrell impacted many lives in Maxwell through her work as bookkeeper at Senior Housing, the friendly smile at Maxwell State Bank, and was instrumental in the conception and construction of the Maxwell Community Center. She took pride in making her community a better place. Sherrell enjoyed sewing, dancing, and was a big Elvis Presley fan. Sherrell was known for her love and dedication to her children and grandchildren. Attending her granddaughters’ dance recitals were highlights of her later years. Her memory will be forever in their hearts. Those left to cherish her memory include her four daughters, Lorie (Daniel Corbin) Mestdagh of Des Moines, Lisa (David) Mens of Ames, LaDonna (Eric) Pagel of Madrid, Iowa, and Stacy (Stephen) Fulton of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, Ashlee (Brett) Rathbun, Nicole (Jameson) Hudson, Kendra (Jesse Palmer) Mestdagh, Knowlton Mens, Austin Mens, Morgan Fulton, Samantha Pagel, Charlee Fulton; two great-grandchildren, Hadley Rathbun, “Baby” Palmer; two sisters, Beverly (James) Andrews, Karen Harris; and a brother, Martin (Stephanie) Bassett. Sherrell was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry Dean; and brother-in-law, Joe Harris. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 3-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at the Maxwell Area Community Center in Maxwell, from 6-9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2015.
