Ben Hamilton

Ben P. Hamilton passed away on July 20, 2026 at the age of 77, surrounded by loving family. His parents Clarence and Elsie Hamilton preceded him in death as did his brothers Jerry, Carl, Leo, and Swede, and his sisters Lila, Lorna and Bertie. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Sarah (Wright) Hamilton and their daughters Dana (Alex Hernandez) Hamilton and Brande (Robert) Blair as well as their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Levi (Rileigh) Hamilton, Ethan (Sabrina) Blair, Sarah Hernandez, Corinne Hernandez, Ema Hamilton and Renae Hamilton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families as well as many members of his wife’s family. He graduated from Southeast Warren High School in Liberty Center, Iowa in 1967 and went to work at Eagle Iron Works in Des Moines after graduation. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the Iowa Air National Guard from 1968 to 1974, specializing in the field of Disaster Preparedness. Ben was known for his work ethic. At 25, he started at American National Can Company in Des Moines in the maintenance department and when he retired, he was Manager of Engineering. He went on to become a world-wide consultant in the plastics industry - providing consulting services all over the United States, Germany and Mexico. Ben enjoyed bluegrass music festivals, the Old Threshers Reunion, golfing, riding his motorcycle through the countryside and spending time with his family, especially his beloved wife. He was known for his story-telling and loved nothing more than regaling his family and friends with the stories of his childhood in Milo, Iowa. He grew up in the 50’s and 60’s in a small town and he was known for his ornery shenanigans. Benny Pearl Hamilton had a large presence in the lives of his family members. He will be missed and remembered forever. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to the ALS Society in honor of Ben’s niece. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the IOOF located at 1202 S. Jefferson Way, Indianola, Iowa 50125. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is assisting the family.
