Billy Joe Prevo

Billy Joe Prevo, 77, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on July 1, 2022 as a result of his battle with cancer. He died at home on the family farm surrounded by his family. He was born on May 3, 1945 to Arden “Joe” and Pauline Reece Prevo in Ottumwa, Iowa. He married Marcella Pender on November 14, 1964 in Milton, Iowa. They had two sons, Eric and Eron Prevo Billy attended Davis County High School and graduated in 1963. Billy farmed the family farm most of his life, was a security officer at the IAAP in Burlington, Iowa for 23 years, owned and operated Prevo Contract Painting where he painted many local farm homes & buildings for 20 plus years while farming, doing custom combining for many local farmers, and helping his son with Prevo Auction Service. Billy was born and raised on the family farm where he still resided except for the nine years that they lived in Burlington. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bloomfield. He was a hard worker and loved the farm, enjoyed being with his sons and grandsons who were the joy of his life. He enjoyed telling them stories and when he was no longer able to do the farming or taking care of the farm animals he always had advise for his sons and grandsons. He tried telling them how to do things whether they wanted to hear it or not. He knew how to fix broken machinery and could tell them how to fix it. He enjoyed traveling, getting together with his family and extended family members. He had many family and friend get-togethers on the family farm. He enjoyed the yearly deer hunting with his sons, grandsons, nephew and friends and having coffee with his friends. He enjoyed going to car races, he attended the county fair every year and the state fair. Billy is survived by his wife of 57 years; son, Eric Prevo; five grandsons, Nicholas (Emily), Tyler, Colton, Michael and Brett all of Bloomfield; great-grandson, Tate of Bloomfield; four sisters, Sylvia Schlarbaum, Kay (Keith) Smith, Shirley Smith all of Bloomfield, Joan Martin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, and brothers-and-sisters-in-law. He will be greatly missed by his family & friends He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eron Jay Prevo; and an infant brother, David Prevo. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. John D. Boatman officiating. Burial will be at the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Pulaski Cemetery and Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties. May he rest in peace.
