Jane Davis

QUINCY: Jane C. Wheeler Davis, 89, of Bloomfield, Iowa and former resident of Quincy, Illinois died December 20, 2011 at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield. She was born February 6, 1922 in Dallas City, Illinois to Leo and Emma Steffey Clow. She married Virgil R. Wheeler August 2, 1942 in LaGrange, Missouri. To this union three children were born, Penny, Virgil Jr., and Lu Ann. She later married Orin L. Davis July 20, 1978 in Garland County, Arkansas. Jane attended Quincy Public Schools. When young she worked in the Raymond Schmitt Home and was later employed at the J.C. Penney Department Store and F.W. Woolworth Company in Quincy. She retired from Blessing Hospital where she worked as a certified nurse’s aide in the Rehabilitation Unit. In 1978 she moved to Salem, Missouri where she and Orin lived on a small acreage until the time of his death. She returned to Quincy in 2002 and then moved to Bloomfield in 2009. Jane loved fishing with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Union United Methodist Church while living in Quincy and the First Christian Church while living in Salem. She is survived by two daughters, Penny (Mark) Warren of Bloomfield, Iowa, Lu Ann (Mike) Bumgarner of New Haven, Missouri; nine grandchildren, David (Stacey) Warren of Laredo, Texas, Andrew (Ann) Warren of West Des Moines, Iowa, James (Lisa) Warren of Bloomfield, Iowa, John (Sarah) Warren of Big Lake, Minnesota, Holly (Joe) Doellman of Quincy, Rich (Amy) Wheeler of Burlington, Iowa, Jason Bumgarner of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Sarah Bumgarner of Waterloo, Iowa, Lincoln Bumgarner of New Haven, Missouri; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elda Setters of Colmesneil, Texas, Billie Altheide of Quincy; a brother, Pat Clow also of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a son, Virgil R. Wheeler Jr.; three brothers, Edward, Frederick and Emery “Jack” Clow; and a sister, Mary Beth Van Blair. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Zehender-Robinson-Stormer-Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy, Illinois with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be at the Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home in Quincy. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Care Center Activity Fund and may be mailed to the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Wagler Funeral Home is assisting the family.
