Joni Hoover

Joni Jean Hoover was born on June 17, 1964, at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, IA to Max Silvers and Margaret Silvers (Gooden). Joni had five siblings: Carla Silvers of Donna, TX, Jan (Curtis) Christensen of Bloomfield, IA, Michael (Sheryl) Silvers of Carlisle, IA, Steve (Julia) Silvers of Bloomfield, IA, and Dana (Robb) Cook of Merriman, NE. Joni was raised on the family farm in Bloomfield and loved showing calves in 4-H and riding horses growing up. She especially loved having a big family with many cousins who always spent time on the farm. She was the baby of the 6 Silvers kids and she made sure you knew it! She was a very proud Aunt to many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She worked as a waitress as a young person. On July 29, 1983 she was joined in Marriage to Rob Hoover. During their life they had two beautiful children: Brandon (Yvonne) Hoover and Courtney (Zach) Hale. Joni and Rob loved boating and skiing, float trips, horse trail rides, and had many dogs over the years, the most memorable being her schnauzer Gus. Joni and Rob lived in Kingfisher, OK for a few years after having Brandon in 1984. They spent a lot of time traveling from Oklahoma to Iowa to see family before settling in Lawson, Missouri for 15 years. In 1994 they had Courtney. During this time Joni had her own pet grooming salon, The Shampoodle Shop, in Kansas City. She groomed for 11 years. After grooming she was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, a sales associate and head cashier for Westlake Ace Hardware, and she had a few other jobs including working for Hallmark. She was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals and was especially excited to watch the Royals in the World Series and the Chiefs at the Super Bowl- twice! Her kids kept her busy over the years at wrestling tournaments, baseball games, rodeos, choir concerts, and plays. In 1999 Joni and Rob divorced and she came home to Bloomfield, IA in 2002. In Bloomfield, she worked at Hillphoenix, a scrap yard, and most recently a cook and delivery driver for the Senior Activity Center. In 2013 she became a stay at home wife and mom. During this time after returning to Bloomfield Joni connected with Thomas Swaim in 2006 and gained a bonus family. They were later joined in marriage on December 20, 2016 at their home by their daughter Courtney. During their life together Tommy and Joni spent time traveling with family and friends, hosting and attending bon fires, road trips to try new restaurants, and spending time in their pool. In 2017 she gained her most favorite title, Memaw. She had two grandbabies Rhett and Maggie. She loved to tell people she had the best grandkids there ever were and that she was NOT biased. Since becoming a memaw she spent her days with the grandkids and special niece Wendy Davis and loved spoiling them rotten. If you couldn’t find Joni and the kids at home then you just looked for the red golf cart. Usually she was at the fairgrounds watching the kids play in the sandbox and on the swing set. Joni was the biggest supporter and cheerleader to all her friends and family. She brought sunshine to every room she entered. She truly never knew a stranger. Surviving: Husband Thomas Swaim, daughter Courtney, son Brandon, grandchildren Rhett and Maggie and special niece Wendy Davis. Preceded in death: Mom and dad Max and Margaret Silvers, Mother-in-law Judy Frueh, Father-in-law Don Hoover, mother-in-law Jo Swaim, nephew Kasey Davis, sister-in-law Tammy Silvers. Celebration of life will be Saturday October 14, 2023 at the Davis County Fairgrounds 4-H Building at 4:00 with the family present from 4-8. Donations made will be put in a fund for a memorial to be decided at a later time.
