Leo Ornduff

Leo Carrol Ornduff, 87, of Troy, Iowa passed away on November 18, 2023 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born on August 10, 1936 in Troy, Iowa to Guy Wallace and Ve Irene McLeland Ornduff. He graduated from Troy High School in 1954 where he participated in baseball and basketball. Leo joined the Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. On February 21, 1960, he married Ila Joan Stigers. Leo was a farmer and worked for Troy Elevator and Mid-States Manufacturing in Milton until his retirement. He also worked as a farmhand for many years. Leo was active in harness racing as a driver and then as a trainer. He spent many summer days going from one county fair to another to harness race, announce races, and be a race official. Leo was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church, Troy Card Club, Southeast Iowa Harness Racing Association, and the US Trotting Association. He enjoyed golfing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and listening to Alan Jackson, George Jones, and Johnny Cash. Leo cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Joan Ornduff; son, Brian (Vickie) Ornduff of Bloomfield; daughter, LeAnn (Bruce) Huggins of Milton, Iowa; five grandchildren, Madeline (Josh) Seay, Kalab (Danette) Ornduff, Vanessa (Dustin) Ratzloff, Samuel Huggins, Tanner (Kelsey) Ornduff; 13 great-grandchildren, Dalton, Kalan, Chloe, Shaylynn, Keaton, Daxton, Isabella, Drake, Aliya, Cash, Mya, Tia, Gabe; brother, Rex “Bud” Ornduff of Troy, Iowa; brother-in-law, Richard Glattfelder of Bloomfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Keaton James; brother, Dean Ornduff; and sister, Ida Marie Glattfelder. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Troy United Methodist Church with Rev. Donna Olinger and Pastor Alan Paris officiating. Burial will be at the Lebanon Cemetery east of Lebanon, Iowa. Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will provide graveside military rites. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A memorial has been established to his family.
