Carlene Horn

Carlene Mary Horn, 72, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on June 24, 2019 at the Davis County Hospital. She was born January 9, 1947 in Fremont, Nebraska to Earl A. and Berniece Krause Grove. She married Phillip Horn on December 25, 1965 in Bloomfield. The couple lived in Bloomfield and raised three children; Tammy, Trisha, and Chad. Carlene worked as a beautician for several years and owned Carlene’s Beauty Shop just off the square. She enjoyed working in the beauty shop but had a desire to be a teacher so she went back to school and graduated from William Penn in 1991 with a teaching degree. She taught at Cardinal in Eldon for several years and then for Davis County. She taught English and Drama until her retirement in 2008. She had a love for the fine arts including plays, music, and reading. Carlene stayed active outside of work by cooking and baking, growing flowers, bowling on several different league teams, and keeping up with her kids and grandchildren. She loved going to events for her grandchildren and her schedule often revolved around their lives. She was a proud grandmother and loved her grandchildren very much. Carlene was also active within the Lutheran Church where she attended for many years. She had currently been attending the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Phillip Horn; two daughters, Tammy (Eric) Roberts, Trisha Horn both of Bloomfield; son, Chad (Sarah) Horn of Bloomfield; seven grandchildren, Kylie (Austin) Owen, Kaitlyn Graves, Ella Horn, Mackenzie Horn, Josie Horn, Colton Roberts, Mason Roberts; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Drake; two aunts, Elsie Booze, Wilma Grove; brother-in-law, Richard (Carolyn) Horn and family; sister-in-law, Donna Walters and family; several cousins, close friends, and former students. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Earl Grove Jr. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Frasher officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Memorials have been established to Davis County Dollars for Scholars and the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa.
