Clyde Farmer

May 14, 1936 - April 18, 2022

Clyde Franklin Farmer, 85, of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away on April 18, 2022 at ProMedica Skilled Nursing in Davenport, Iowa. He was born on May 14, 1936 to Robert David and Mamie Ellen Ladd Farmer near Webster in Wayne County, Indiana. He was baptized into the Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Indiana, by his father, Elder David Farmer in August of 1957. He moved his membership to Harmony Primitive Baptist Church in Ohio, San Antonio Primitive Baptist in San Antonio, Texas, Pleasant Valley Primitive Baptist Church in Davenport, Iowa, and Des Moines River Primitive Baptist in Eldon, Iowa. On April 4, 1959 he married Winifred Irene Johnson in Alexandria, Ohio. The couple has five children. Clyde served in the Navy on two aircraft carriers and in Guam. He retired from civil service as a computer specialist. In September 1966, he was ordained as a minister in the Primitive Baptist Church in Ohio and would serve churches in Ohio, Texas, and Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, reading, collecting stamps, and working with puzzles. His ministry touched many lives and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Winifred Farmer of Bettendorf, Iowa; five children, Rosanna (John) Stapp of Junction, Texas, Evelyn Moreno of San Antonio, Texas, Suellen (Terry) Schnathorst of Seguin, Texas, Ray Farmer of Bettendorf, Betsy (James) Swearengen of Bettendorf; ten grandchildren, Bryan, Daniel, Andrew, Amber, Ashley, Alyssa, Justin, Marcelious, Renee, Sarah; 19 great-grandchildren, Josiah, September, Sienna, Neveah, Eliyah, Ryan, Raylea, Riley, Remy, Noah, Derrick, Lucy, Elijah, Maddox, Talia, Lluvia, Janiya, Sammy, and one on the way; special neighbor, Phil Poe; sister-in-law, Carolyn Farmer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three great-grandchildren, Aralyn Farmer, Baby Prather, Baby Farmer; and five siblings, Leona, Pauline, Alma, Melvin, Robert. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Des Moines River Primitive Baptist Church in Eldon, Iowa with Pastors David Burress and John Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at the Des Moines River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be performed. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
