Gerald E. “Jerry” Ales, 82, of Davenport, Iowa passed away on March 31, 2021 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. He was born on October 10, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa to Gerald and Blanche Nowachek Ales and grew up on a farm between Oxford Junction and Lost Nation, Iowa. He attended country school at Mt. Ida and graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1956. On September 9, 1956, he enlisted in the Airforce and did an 18-month tour at Wheelus Airforce Base in Tripoli, Africa. After returning to the states, he finished his duty at Goodfellow Airforce Base in Texas. In 1960, Jerry went to work for Western Electric and traveled the U.S. installing central office equipment and updating communications equipment. On April 21, 1981 he married Janet Yates at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They started their life in a home Jerry owned on a beautiful street in Davenport. They lived there throughout their marriage except for one year; a fire damaged and destroyed the home on May 13, 2013. They chose to put the home back to its original state in improved condition rather than move permanently to a different home. Jerry and Janet had a great life together. She passed away on January 16, 2019. Jerry is survived by a sister-in-law, Jane Yates of Bloomfield. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 2, 2021 at the West Grove Cemetery with Marvin Martin officiating. Masks are required at the cemetery for services. No visitation is planned.
