Hazel Azalea Boyd, 95, of Milton, Iowa passed away on June 12, 2022 at her home. She was born March 8, 1927 in Brock, Missouri to Homer H. and Lillie Mae Lawrence Hunter. She graduated from Milton High School in 1945. On July 7, 1945 she married Francis Harold Boyd in Memphis, Missouri. Francis passed away on September 12, 2002. Hazel enjoyed driving a school bus for Fox Valley and Van Buren County Schools for over 40 years, retiring at the age of 84. She also worked as an aide at Fox Valley and AEA Preschool for 14 years. She joined the Milton Christian Church in 1936 and was an active member. Hazel served as Mother Advisor and Grand Deputy for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in Iowa and Minnesota, retiring in 2005. She was also an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Hazel stayed busy with many interests including; sewing, quilting, needlework, bowling, playing cards with friends, doing puzzles, and watching NBA Basketball games with the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors being her favorites to watch. She loved spending time with her family and attending school events, birthday parties, and sports games. Hazel loved to cook – especially for her family at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hazel will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by one son, JR (Mary) Boyd of Moulton, Iowa; three daughters, Myra (Ross) Madden of Bloomfield, Teresa (Bob) Cole of Douds, Iowa, Tamara Van Pelt of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Douglas Boyd; grandson, Philip Raymond Marlow Jr.; brother, Harry Hunter; and five sisters, Opal Armstrong, Ann Gipson, Velma Kaiser, Wanda Nance, and infant Sylvia Hunter. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Milton Christian Church with Pastor Kevin Mote officiating. Burial will be at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Memorials have been established to the Milton Christian Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the Milton Fire Department.
