Jeff Hansen
April 2, 1957 - January 29, 2022
Jeffrey Scott Hansen, 64, of Iowa City, Iowa passed away on January 29, 2022 at his Bloomfield home with family at his side. He was born on April 2, 1957 in Elgin, Illinois to George Martin Hansen Jr. and Virginia Bueter Hansen. He grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa. Early on, Jeff had a love for animals. He raised rabbits for Boy Scouts and had exotic pets including baby raccoons, a pet crow, and many snakes. He also had a passion for science, especially geology, which is what he studied at the University of Northern Iowa. He served in the Army in 1974. Jeff had multiple careers in life including; surveying, smoking turkeys at Louis Rich, meat cutting, and finally working his dream job at a sediment lab for the United States Geological Survey in Iowa City. He was also at his happiest when he spent his days in Florida with his boys, where he also lived for a period of time. Jeff was known for being quite eclectic, with his love of music, gardening, cooking, animals, science and one can’t forget his borderline obsession with old science fiction movies, tv shows, and anything with a good monster in it, a trait he shared with his sons and grandson. Surviving are his two sons, Kevin (Lindsay) Erhardt-Hansen, Trevor Hansen; grandson, Garyn Erhardt-Hansen; sister, Joan Costa; and his ex-wife, Sarah Breckner, who remains close to the family. Jeff was preceded in death by his father, George M. Hansen Jr.; mother, Virginia Beuter; step-father, George McCreedy; as well has his faithful companion and furbaby, Beowulf (dog). Jeff's wish was to be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
