Marjorie Grim Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marjorie Grim passed from this life to join her husband, Bill, on July 22. She was born March 22, 1930 in Scotland Co., Missouri to Lee Roy & Dorothy (Wells) Luther. After graduating from Bloomfield High School, she attended nurses training & earned her nurses cap in 1952 from Broadlawns in Des Moines. On January 30, 1951 she married the love of her life, William H. (Bill) Grim. They went through life together side by side while they raised six children on the family farm. Bill passed from this life on December 23, 2002 after nearly 52 of togetherness. Marjorie (or Marge as she was often called by many) touched innumerable lives during her time here on earth. Her career in nursing was mainly spent at the Gilfillan Clinic in support of Dr. Henry Perry. She was a people person who really enjoyed everyday interactions with the patients. She dearly loved her family which showed in so many ways. Each of her children & grandchildren at some point received a handmade quilt which was made & hand quilted by her. She also sewed many outfits for children & grandchildren. Cross stitch work was another favorite hobby. Reading, cooking, bird watching, gardening, crocheting, knitting & crossword puzzles were a few of the many things she enjoyed. She never met a flower she didn’t like. Later in life she took up oil painting & made special paintings for each of her children. Marjorie was a devoted & proud life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She seldom missed a televised game & even got to attend one in person some years ago which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also enjoyed league bowling with her husband and in later years with her daughters. Many fun state bowling tournament trips were taken over the years. Marjorie is survived by six children: Richard (Deb), Donna, David (Shonda), Mark (Rena), Laura Rickelman (Steve) & John (Penny). There are too many grandchildren & great-grandchildren to count, but not too many to love. Preceding her in death were brothers Vernon & Roger. She will be forever remembered & loved by them all. Her family is forever grateful to the staff at Good Samaritan in Ottumwa for the excellent and loving care she received over the last several months. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 28, 2022 in the 4-H Building at the Davis County Fairgrounds from 2-4:00 p.m. A memorial scholarship will be established & given to someone entering the nursing profession in hopes that they will love that career as she did.
