Max Myers

March 30, 1936 - June 3, 2019

Max Arthur Myers, 83, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on June 3, 2019 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born March 30, 1936 in Scotland County, Missouri to Michael Benjamin and Ida Barbara Witte Myers. He married Mary Lou McGee on August 23, 1959 in Memphis, Missouri. Max was a high school math teacher for Davis County Schools for 30 years and also farmed, raising cattle and hay. He loved the farmland and sharing that passion with his son, Tony. An avid outdoorsman, he cherished going on hunting trips in the area and out west with his son-in-law, Kurt, and his friends. His favorite part of the trips was the time spent around the campfire sharing stories, cooking meals, and looking at stars. He liked to read books by Louis L’Amour and had a massive collection of the writer’s novels. Max also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending various activities over the years including dance recitals, soccer matches, and basketball games. He was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Myers; children, Tim (Nancy) Myers of Aliso Viejo, California, Dr. Tony (Kendall) Myers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Amy (Kurt) Tisdale of Bloomfield, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Michael (Sue) Myers, Charles (Judy) Myers both of Memphis, Missouri; and two sisters, Barbara (Jim) Callahan of Godfrey, Illinois, Dr. Beverly Myers of Bellingham, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rhonda Eakins and Rodger Simmons officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
