Olin Dewayne Laws

December 29, 1926 - June 8, 2020

Olin Dewayne Laws, 93, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on June 8, 2020 at the Davis County Hospital. He was born December 29, 1926 in Missouri to Ova Olin and Edna Teresa (Coon) Laws. He was united in marriage to Hazel Irene Darrah on January 1, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa, and were the parents of five children; Nellie Irina, Carol Ann, Terri, Debra Marie and Leona Christine. Irene passed away January 18, 2011. Olin (Wayne) wore many hats in his 93 years. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was a 50-year-member of the American Legion. After the war, he was a progressive farmer in both Monroe and Davis County, but he enjoyed the many years he spent trucking most of all. He hauled livestock as-well-as freight. Irene trucked with him for many years and together they traveled to 47 of the 48 contiguous states. In the winter, they became “Winter Texans,” spending over 30 years together in “The Valley.” In his later years, he enjoyed drinking coffee with friends at the “Early shift at Bloomfield Show & Tell.” He is survived by three daughters, Carol (Donnie) Sines, Terri (Louie) Miller both of Bloomfield, Christine (Jim) Fuller of Blue Grass, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Tisha Palmer of Boone, Iowa, John (Sherry) Hawkins of Ottumwa, Iowa, Brent (Shannon) Miller of Norwalk, Iowa, Barbie (Tim) Slayton of Downing, Missouri, Becky (Aaron) Murphy of Osage, Iowa, Patrick (Marcy) Fuller of Ft. Rucker, Alabama, Jessica (Jason) Pentecost of Chesterfield, Virginia; 18 great-grandchildren, Megan Martin, Abbie Higgins, Emma Grace Martin, Cami Jo Martin, Alexis Hawkins, Jennifer Lafrenz, Mark Andrew Lafrenz, Jacob Murphy, Sara Murphy, Jackson Murphy, Nicholas Slayton, Trevor Slayton, Brock Miller, Grant Miller, Jacob Fuller, Emily Fuller, Lucas Pentecost, Allison Pentecost; three great-great-grandchildren, Willow Martin, Rebecca Higgins, Aubrey Higgins; and son-in-law, Marvin Lafrenz. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two daughters, Irina Lafrenz, Debra Marie Laws; grandson, Tim Lafrenz; and two sisters, Lois Woodley, Letha McIntire. Visitation without the presence of family will be from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family funeral will follow the public visitation with Rev. Leslie Dotson officiating. Burial will be at the Dunnville Cemetery in Davis County with military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion. Memorials have been established to the Davis County Genealogy Society and the Lord’s Cupboard.
