Sharon Reese

October 12, 1947 - December 26, 2020

Sharon Kay Reese, 73, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on December 26, 2020, at the Ridgewood Specialty Care facility in Ottumwa after a 2-year valiant fight with pancreatic cancer. She was born October 12, 1947, to Donald Ernest Hawkins and Ada Maxine (Grinstead) Hawkins. She graduated from Davis County High School in 1965. Sharon attended Iowa Success Business School in Ottumwa after high school. On September 3rd, 1966, she married Edward Reese, Jr (known as Junior to most) at the Bloomfield Christian Church in Bloomfield. Sharon started her employment career at Meadow Gold Dairy in Ottumwa and had a few odd jobs here and there. In the late 1970s, she began working at the Gambles Hardware store and later the Hamilton Produce Company. She really enjoyed her time at Gambles and Hamilton’s, especially talking with all her coworkers, friends, and acquaintances when they came in the stores. Sharon never knew a stranger and loved talking with people, especially about her grandkids. She and Junior also enjoyed following their kids and grandkids wherever they went to play sports. She was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She and Junior loved traveling to National Guard Enlisted Association events with close friends. She is survived by her husband, Junior; son, Stacy (Melanie) Reese of Coralville, Iowa; daughter, Kristi (Brad) Woolard of Bloomfield, Iowa; three grandkids, Nathan, Anna, and Kolby; her mother, Maxine Hawkins of Bloomfield, Iowa; one brother, Larry (Donna) Hawkins of Drakesville, Iowa; nieces and nephews (including her special personal nurse/niece Tara). She was preceded in death by her father. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with Rev. Leslie Dotson officiating. A memorial has been established to the Look to the Stars Cancer Foundation and to the Bloomfield Wreaths Across America Organization.
