V. Joyce Grosvenor

Violet Joyce Hopkins McElderry Grosvenor, 82, of Moravia, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at her home. She was born the daughter of William M. and Zelma (Smith) Hopkins on January 14, 1939 in rural Davis County. She was educated in the Black Hawk rural school in Davis County and graduated from Udell High School as salutatorian in 1956. Joyce married Stanley Irelan McElderry in 1961. She later married Arthur Grosvenor, who preceded her in death. She worked for the State of Iowa as a Job Service interviewer for over 25 years before retiring in 1998. Joyce is survived by her four sons, Stanley Ray McElderry and his wife Laura of Ottumwa, Bradley Irelan McElderry and his wife Jeong Nan of Ottumwa, Kenneth Lee McElderry of Houston, Texas, and Ralph Leslie McElderry of Moravia; five sisters, Miriam Hougland of Ottumwa, Marlene Frich of Morgantown, West Virginia, Patricia Hubbartt of Arroyo Grande, California, Lois Houser of Elkhart, Indiana, and Linda Holm of Humeston, Iowa; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings in infancy; brothers, Robert, Stephen, John, and George Hopkins; sisters, Evelyn Scott, Mary Thomas; and a grandson, Sean Patrick McElderry. Due to the pandemic, private family services will be held at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Burial will follow at the Taylor Cemetery east of Unionville, Iowa.
